MGMA member testifies May 8 on recommended change to Medicare Advantage program

On May 8, Mona Reimers, CMPE, CPC, represented MGMA in a hearing before the U.S. House of Representatives Small Business Committee examining the operational impact of Medicare physician fee cuts on medical group practices. Reimers, an MGMA member and president of Indiana MGMA, is director, Revenue Services, Orthopaedics NorthEast PC, Fort Wayne, Ind. She was invited to testify in response to increased MGMA member concerns regarding the flawed Medicare physician payment and growing operational burdens associated with the Medicare Advantage program. A nationwide consumer-awareness program might prompt more patients to ask your physicians and staff for electronic prescriptions, according to the Pharmacy Health Information Exchange operated by SureScripts.

A/R in our five-physician practice had suffered insidious woes. Physician compensation had declined from reduced reimbursement
and increased expenses. The doctors called for an A/R consultation.  Over three months, we detailed the reasons accounts ended up in collections by physician and dollar amount and designed a remedy. The physicians agreed to support the administrative team’s 11 process improvements.
